✦ Synopsis
The next seven chapters are devoted to the applications of acoustics. The first three of this group deal with the theory and design of loudspeakers and microphones. The titles of the remaining chapters are: Psychoacoustics, Architectural Acoustics, Underwater Acoustics, and Ultrasonics.
Emphasis is placed on the close association of acoustics with communication engineering. The authors also take advantage of the fact that electrical analogues can be very useful in the solution of acoustical problems. Each chapter is followed by a set of problems. Many of these problems deal with practical situations and should be valuable in aiding the student in the application of his knowledge. The terminology used in the book is that proposed by the American Standards Association.
The authors have made no attempt to make the book a comprehensive reference work. As a text, however, it is quite complete and its presentation of the subject is clear and well organized. It should prove particularly useful in engineering courses.
