Ace Baxter still has a ghost problem. At his wits end, Ace calls in spiritual medium, Chris Mellon, to help him. She confirms what he already knows. His house is haunted. Unfortunately, it's more than she can handle alone. Add yet another spirit to the mix--this one searching for a coin he thinks he needs to cross over--and Ace is reaching his breaking point. There's hope, though. Chris promises to come back with her sister, Judy and, together they should be able to send his spirits on their way.

Then Ace gets a call from Officer Wicket. There's trouble out at the Mellon place and Chief Sam is out of town. Ace meets him there only to find that Judy Mellon, Chris's sister, has committed suicide. Was it really suicide or was it murder? Chris's fiance thinks it's murder and he hires Ace to find out who did it. Ace has been in law enforcement long enough to know that nothing is ever as it seems, even in a cut and dried case like this appears to be. And there's a pretty short list of suspects including an ex-husband, a current boyfriend and a strange love/hate relationship with that new fiance.

As Ace digs into the situation, he finds there may be more of a mystery here than either he or officer Wicket bargained for. And that coin? Even if Ace can find it, the newest member of his ghostly family may be too smitten with Essie Blackthorn to cross over…or maybe he'll take her with him.
