✦ Synopsis

Sophianaecetus gen. nov. is introduced here for the Middle Miocene kentriodontid (Mammalia: Cetacea: Delphinoidea) Mediocris commenticius Kaza ´r, 2005 to replace Mediocris, which is a homonym as noted by Uhen (present issue). The type species is placed in this genus to form the specific binominal Sophianaecetus commenticius. The diagnosis and content of the new genus follows Kaza ´r (2005). Sophianaecetus derives its name from Sophianae, the Latin name for Pe ´cs, a quaint, small university town, yet the biggest near the type locality; and cetus, the Latin name for whale.
