β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of sonography for measuring the volume of the left lateral segment of the liver.
Methods
The volume of the left lateral segment of the liver was measured with sonography in 101 consecutive patients who were hospitalized between December 1998 and January 2000 for hepatic, biliary, or pancreatic disease or who were donors for a living related liver transplantation. The results were compared with those obtained using CT.
Results
The mean calculated volume of the left lateral segment of the liver Β± standard deviation was 261 Β± 118 cm^3^ by sonography compared with 274 Β± 123 cm^3^ by CT. The relationship between the results of both imaging modalities was linear and statistically significant (r = 0.93; p < 0.0001).
Conclusions
Our study demonstrated that sonography has an acceptable level of accuracy and reliability for routine measurement of the volume of the left lateral segment of the liver. Β© 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Clin Ultrasound 30:117β122, 2002; DOI 10.1002/jcu.10050

## Abstract ## Purpose. To evaluate the ability of highβfrequency sonography to evaluate the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN). ## Methods. A cadaveric study was performed on 5 cadavers to outline the normal course of the LFCN. Next, 37 LFCNs in 21 volunteers were evaluated via sonography w
The real-time ultrasound images of the head of the pancreas in 93 children, and those of the body of the pancreas in 143 children, were analyzed to determine the normal size. Ultrasound images were obtained by sagittal scanning at the epigastrium and the long axis and the short axis of the oval cros
## Abstract Hemangiopericytoma (HP) is an uncommon vascular tumor that rarely develops in the liver. We present the case of a 68βyearβold female with a primary HP involving the right lobe of the liver, detected during an abdominal screening sonography. The lesion was further evaluated using multide
Extramedullary hematopoiesis is a compensatory mechanism by which red blood cells are produced outside the bone marrow when marrow production is insufficient to meet the body's demands. Erythropoiesis occurs normally in an extramedullary fashion during gestation, with fetal blood being produced in
