In this paper Somigliana's method has been utilized to solve the two-dimensional boundary value problems of elastic half-spaces. We have considered traction and displacement problem, shear problem, contact and crack problems and the solutions, thus derived, have been compared with those derived from

β¦ Synopsis
The displacement fields due to the formation of inclusions in an infinite elastic medium are derived by exploiting Somigliana's method in linear elastostatics. The present approach provides a mathematical justification for Eshelby's formulation, based on heuristic arguments, of inclusion problems in terms of point forces or, alternatively, in terms of dislocations.

## Abstract We present a novel spaceβtime Galerkin method for solutions of secondβorder timeβdependent problems. By introducing the displacementβvelocity relationship implicitly, the governing set of equations is reformulated into a firstβorder single field problem with the unknowns in the velocity
