✦ Synopsis
How to understand "multicultural" or "intercultural" education? Is it education of pupils who, as a group, are socialised in different cultures? Is it a type of education that tries to introduce pupils to different cultures? Is it an education which intends to bring pupils in (close) contact to cultures different from their home background? Or is it the schooling of pupils in an "interculture" which mediates between different cultural traditions? We want to shed some light on this diffusing issue by discussing selected documents from our research project on classroom interaction in Dutch primary schools. At first we will give some information about our research project. We will shortly introduce our basic assumptions, data and research questions. Next we will describe two fragments which we chose as key incidents. And finally we will come to our conclusions. 1
