-Theoxidation of N-[l-Methyl-2:3dihydroxy-cyclopenten(2)-ylidene(4)]
pip+dinium Maine(k) was investigated using electrochemical methods. The betaine was observed to be oxidiaai in an irreversible two-electron process to give fragmentation products. The major product resulted from the attack of piperidine on the enamine intermediate which is obtained through the two-electron oxidation of (I).
