โฆ Synopsis
If the values of the energies of the a-disintegration are plotted against M--l,5 Z, two curves are obtained: one for the atoms with even charge number and one for those with odd charge number. The points for the ,,odd atoms" can be brought o n the curve for the ,,even atoms" by subtracting 2mo c2 from the energy of disintegration and adding 6 to the value of M --l , 5 Z. If the values of the upper limit of the continuous [~spectrum are plotted against M--l,5 Z, two groups of points are obtained : one for the odd atoms and one for the even ones. For the first group the upper limits are higher than for the second. The supposition is mad e that the even elements contain ยฝZ x-particles and M--2 Z neutrons, and the odd elements ยฝ(Z --1) c~-particles, M --2Z + I neutrons and 1 proton.
