β¦ Synopsis
l)revious articles on the construction of nomographs with hyperbolic coordinates have dealt only briefly with the properties of the coordinate systems, attention being devoted primarily to practical applications. Extensive application of these methods, however, requires imagination and the freedom to select among, or depart from, the various types of coordinate systems suitable for the construction of nomographs. These requirements cannot be met without a clear mental picture of the properties of hyperbolic coordinate systems in general, and their relationships to cartesian coordinates. The purpose of the present article is to close the mauy gaps left by the treatment given in previous articles, and to provide a concise and systematic theoretlcal background for further application of these methods.

We show that every word-hyperbolic group is residually finite if and only if every word-hyperbolic group has a finite quotient.
Sufficient conditions are established for the oscillations of systems of hyperbolic differential equations of the form 2 d Ε½ . . where β is a bounded domain in R n with a piecewise smooth boundary Ρ¨ β, and β¬ is the Laplacian in Euclidean n-space R n .
