✦ Synopsis
The WATR method for water suppression in 'H NMR spectroscopy has been evaluated at 80MHz, using both ammonium and guanidinium chloride, with and without the addition of buffer salts. The pH of maximum effect has been found to depend on field strength and to be markedly affected by buffer salts, particularly phosphates. Provided that the pH is carefully controlled the method is simple and effective.
