Murman Marine Biological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Some long-term changes in the fauna and biological productivity of the Barents Sea and their causes 1 .

Long-term changes in fauna and biological productivity of a sea are closely related to geological, hydrometeorological, biotic, and anthropogenous factors. Not all of bhese factors can be analysed directly. This paper examines the influence exerted by some observable factors upon the Barents Sea organisms and biological productivity.

Acomplex study of theBarentsSea was started byN. M. KNIPOV~CH (1938) a t the close of the last century and then continued by many outstanding investigations (ZENKE-VICH, 1947, 1951). In particular, long-term thermal changes of this body of water were registered. The long-term mean temperature for the period between 1934 and 1952 was half degree higher than that for the period between 1900 and 1934. The rate of warming for the period between 1929 and 1940 averaged 0.05OC per year.

Cells of transplantable ascitic hepatoma originally induced in C3HA mice by orthoaminoazotoluene were explanted in tissue culture. Several established cell-lines of ascitic hepatoma (AH-2, AH-3, AH-4) and clonal lines from AH-2 (clones N l , N2, N 3 ) were obtained. During the early stages of cultiv
