โฆ Synopsis
T h e capture, loss a n d ionization cross-section m e a s u r e m e n t s are carried o u t for H +, He +, N +, N~, Ne +, A +, Kr+, J+ a n d T1 + ions shot into hydrogen, neon a n d argon gas, in t h e energy region 2-25 keV. T h e cross-section results are i n t e r p r e t e d with the p a r a m e t e r aAE/hv; excited states h a v e to be considered. W e h a v e given some considerations a b o u t s c a t t e r i n g over large angles a n d some d a t e s a b o u t s e c o n d a r y emission of electrons on copper.

The advantages of ion etching over wet chemical etching are demonstrated, e,g. structure resolution in the region of the etching depth, no undercutting, excellent reproducibility and high adherence of small striplines.
