✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The viscosity data available for four anionically polymerized polystyrenes ranging in molecular weight from 1100 to 47,000 for the temperature range T~g~ to T~g~ + 100°C have been fitted by computer programs to both the Vogel, Fulcher, Tamman, and Hesse (VFTH) equation and to two optimum intersecting Arrhenius equations. The intersection point has been interpreted as a manifestation of a liquid‐liquid transition. The fits to the VFTH equation were in every case found to be far superior. Systematic deviations of the residuals were observed for the best Arrhenius fits which indicate the lack of any validity for such a representation of the data.
