## Abstract This study considers the impact of managed rotational burning of vegetation and sheep grazing upon the composition of soil waters within an upland peat soil. The study has considered soil water compositions from a complete factorial design of treatment plots where three different burnin

โฆ Synopsis
deficient birds treated with pituitary extract each laid an egg every day for at least 5 days after the first injection, although egg production by the calcium-deficient controls had virtuaUy ceased at this stage.
Conclusion
It may be concluded from this experiment that the cessation of egg production which occurs when hens are fed a calcium-deficient diet, is due to a failure of gonadotrophin secretion by the anterior pituitary. This mechanism serves to protect the skeleton from excessive depletion and it appears likely that, in birds susceptible to laying paralysis, this mechanism is relatively insensitive.
