✦ Synopsis

We discuss a recent model for the solar chromosphere proposed by Suemoto (Solar Phys. 54, 3). We conclude that the model is incompatible with the basic constraints imposed by high resolution observations and by line formation theory, and that consequently the model does not adequately describe the solar chromosphere. * Mitteilung aus dem Fraunhofer-Institut Nr. 159.
