This study investigated the cognitive processes involved in inductive reasoning. Sixteen undergraduates solved quadratic function-finding problems and provided concurrent verbal protocols. Three fundamental areas of inductive activity were identified: Data Gathering, Pattern Finding, and Hypothesis
