✦ Synopsis
The yield of singlet oxygen (@lo, ) in quenching of the triplets of 1.2.5.6dibenzanthracene. 1,2-benznnthncene. authracene. pyranthrene and duroquinone by oxygen has been studied using the laser photolysis technique. It ~3s found that in toluene @to2 = 1.0 + 0.1 and the quenching occurs via the energy transfer mechanism on accoun: of an exchange interaction in the encounter complex. In benzonitrile the charge transfer contributes to a significant extent. leading to I considerable decrease in +to2.

Triplet quenching of 3-methyllumiflavin, thionine and thiopyronine by electron transfer from NO2 and N3 in acetonitrile, methanol and water was investigated by flash spectroscopy. The radical yield is systematically lower for N3 than for NO2, explicable by the different spin-orbit coupling propertie
The quantum yield (F D ) of singlet oxygen (O 2 ( 1 D g ) production by 9H-fluoren-9-one (FLU) is very sensitive to the nature of the solvent (0.02 in a highly polar and protic solvent, such as MeOH, to 1.0 in apolar solvents). This high sensitivity has been used for probing the interaction of FLU w
