β¦ Synopsis
The reaction IzM + hu-12( B) + M is studied followmg excitation of the 12M cluster above its B state dissoctation limit with M being the diatomics Hz, Nz, 0, and I*. Dispersion of the iodine fluorescence allows for the determination of the relative populations of a number of the vibrational levels v' ofthe B state. The relative importance of the hindered dissoctation pathway appears to increase with decreasing photon energy as compared to the alternative (unobserved) path in which the I-I bond is broken, and the photofragment recotl energy tends to increase with increasing mass of M. We also find an exceptionally large wavelength dependence of the I*(B) yield for the dissociation of Iz02.
