A quantitative model of solvatochromism in a binary solvent system is presented. Although it is derived for merocyanine and betaine dyes, it explains a majority of known examples of solvatochromism in binary solvents. The model provides an estimation of equilibrium constants between particular types

The present work analyzes the solvent effects on the electronic absorption spectra for a set of solvatochromic solutes in several binary mixtures of a polar aprotic hydrogen-bond acceptor solvent with a cosolvent with potential hydrogen-bond donor capability, in terms of preferential solvation model
