โœฆ Synopsis

The solubilities of many additives (anti-oxidants, peroxide decomposers, u.v.-stabilizers etc.) in atactic and isotactic polypropylene were studied by an optical method in the range 70-200 ยฐ. The additives can be grouped in three categories: (1) Highly soluble (more than 10 wt% at 200ยฐ); (2) Moderately soluble (less than 10wt% at 200ยฐ); (3) Nearly insoluble (less than 1 wt% at 70ยฐ). Extrapolation of data to room temperature, taking into account the usual degree of crystallinity, leads in some cases to solubilities well below the concentrations of additives used in practice.
