✦ Synopsis
For charge-transfer excitons strongly interacting with vibrations of a donor-acceptor chain, soliton-like states are found to have an internal structure: at a certain ratio of polaronic shift and electron-hole relative motion energy, a transition from a symmetric to a dimerized soliton occurs accompanied by a crucial change of the lattice distortion pattern, soliton length, etc. This transition corresponds to spontaneous symmetry breaking within an extended state. The polarons on coupled chains are briefly discussed.
