✦ Synopsis

The relationship between the catalytic properties for Li/BisOs, Sm/BisOs, Er/BisO, systems in oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) and their oxygen defect type has been investigated. It has been shown that solid solutions in Li/BisOs system are active and selective catalysta, while defecta of the type of hole centres probably determine their properties. Er/BixOs, Sm/Bi,Os oxygen ion conductors, having a high mobility of lattice oxygen and a significant concentration of oxygen vacancies, are active but show much less selectivity in the OCM reaction.
