A simple cleanup procedure involving Solid Phase Extraction with Cl@bonded silica removes about 22 to 30% of empty fullerenes (C60-Cg4) from a chlorobenzene solution containing the empty fullerenes and di-scandium metallofullerenes (mainly Sc2@Cg4); the metallofullerene content is not reduced significantly.
