โฆ Synopsis
In this study instantaneous solar data read from the chart of Global Solar Radiation on a horizontal surface as well as sunshine hours in Shiraz during a four-year period (1980)(1981)(1982)(1983) are analysed. It is apparent from these data that this area possesses a relatively high abundance of sunshine. The average cumulative annual irradiation is 7250 MJ/m 2, the average daily irradiation is 19.9 MJ/m 2 and the percentage of frequency of clear sky days (/~T > 0.65) is 59%. Based on the available data, an Angstr6m-type formula (////t 0 = 0.23 + 0.54ri/N) is developed to predict solar irradiation in Shiraz with a coefficient of correlation of 0.92. Several models suggested for similar climatical conditions are compared with the measured data and the developed regression equation. Statistics reveal that this formula provides more accurate results than others with an error percentage of less than six.
