โฆ Synopsis
This validates String Ribbon technology's strength,' says Mark Farber, president and CEO of Evergreen Solar. 'As we expand our capacity, producing panels with a higher wattage helps us continue to drive down the cost of production, and moves us forward on the road to financial success. We're proud of how far we've come in such a short time.' Solarcentury showcases Sharp, Kaneka in UK installations
UK-based solarcentury has been exhibiting state-of-the-art PV products at one of its most recent installations. This was a key part of the refurbishment of the Priors Estate for the Peabody Trust, including the largest solar roof on the High Performance Centre at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
Because of the high energy requirements of this development, solarcentury designed a solution using Sharp monocrystalline modules. These can be easily retrofitted to the roof, have a high power density and so maximize the power output from the available roof space, generating 129 MWh of electricity each year.
Using Kaneka modules, solarcentury says it has designed the UK's largest (by area) PV installation at the High Performance Centre at the Alexander Stadium. Value-for-money was a key issue for the local council, and the large, flat roof design of the building meant that Kaneka thin-film modules were an ideal solution. The framing system allows for quick, cost-effective installation onto new or existing roofs, and the Kaneka panels are highly economical modules per square metre. Their excellent performance in overcast conditions means they have a high overall energy output per kWp, and so are ideal for covering large roof areas.
