β¦ Synopsis
The X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectra of C76 and flourinated C60 (C60Fx) were measured. By comparing XANES and inverse photoemission spectra for various n-electron systems, the deviation of XANES from density of unoccupied states (DOUS) by core-excitonic effect was shown to decrease with increasing size and dimensionality. The deviation is not so large for fullerenes, and the spectrum of C76 was compared with calculated DOUS. The change of bonding and electronic structure from C60 to CroF x is also discussed based on the XANES spectra.
