P cal types (plus an unclassified category) of soft tissue sarcoma are presented. Whenever possible, comparisons are made with the data in previously published reports of other series. The pathology of soft tissue sarcoma is mentioned only briefly; for niore detailed accounts, the reader should iefer LO tlw cxcellent papers and hooks noted in the reference list.l98,10,13114 hl ATERIAI 'Tlie uses of sort tissue sarcoma were drawn from material dating back to 1925 and extending to 1956, the latter year chosen to allow for a t least a 5-year follow-up. Only those cases that had been proved b y biopsy study were included. Two hundred such cases were elicited.
The soft tissues involved included connective tissue, muscle, skin, fat, and viscera. Reticuloendothelial and bone sarcomas were excludcd. No vascular tumors (angiosarcomas) were encountered.
