Abstract
The formation of a red coloured chelate (Ξ»~max~ 455 mΞΌ) between ammonium vanadate and sodium alizarinβ3βsulphonate has been taken advantage of, in the colorimetric determination of pentavalent vanadium on a microβscale. The colour formation is instantaneous and the colour intensity is constant between 5Β°C and 70Β°C and pH 3.5 and 5.8. The system adheres to BEERS Law over a range of 0.10 to 3.67 p. p. m. of vanadium. The sensitivity is 0.051 Ξ³/cm^2^ (Sandell) and 0.51 Ξ³cm^2^ (Practical) Copper, beryllium, bismuth, iron, aluminum, cerium, uranium, thorium, tungsten, molybdenum, carbonate, borate, citrate, and tartrate interfere in the determination.
