โœฆ Synopsis

Although the early excitement of learning programs and teaching machines has largely subsided, significant research progress has occurred in this important area and the "new look" is the computer-based program. Critics of early learning programs have argued, with much justification, that no case has yet been made for the superiority of a good learning program over a good text. For programs that present this material in a predetermined sequence, this issue may be difficult to resolve. However, the concept of learning automation has been merged with computer technology, thereby achieving a level of flexibility that clearly goes beyond any simple comparison with good textbooks and demands comparison a t least with good teachers.

Coulson's interesting and highly informative book introduces the "new look."
