โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

The SOxโ€NOxโ€Rox Box^TM^ (SNRB) is an advanced air pollution process patented by Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) that provides for significantly reduced sulfur oxides (SO~x~), nitrogen oxides (NO~x~), and particulate emissions from coalโ€fired boilers. The process uses a highโ€temperature catalytic baghouse for integrating SO~x~ reduction through injecting an alkali sorbent (such as hydrated lime or sodium bicarbonate), NO~x~ removal through ammonia injection and selective catalytic reduction (SCR), and particulate collection. The advantages of the process include: compact integration of the emission control technologies into a single component; dry sorbent and byโ€product handling; and improved SCR catalyst life due to lowered SO~x~ and particulate levels.

The SNRB concept has been successfully demonstrated in a 1500โ€ACFM pilot baghouse at B&W's Alliance (Ohio) Research Center. This paper describes the SNRB technology and presents the SO~x~, NO~x~, and particulate removal performance results over a range of operating conditions for the laboratory pilot test program.

For the coating application case, base metal oxides catalysts (Cu/Cr, Cu/W or Cu/Mn) are not more resistant to poisoning than PGM catalysts, the best results being obtained for a Pt/Pd (1:5) catalyst formulation. Furthermore, the cleaning of aged PGM catalyst is easy and efficient whereas their degr
