✦ Synopsis

The echo planar imaging (EPI) method and related variants of this technique can produce complete two-dimensional images from the data collected in a single experiment lasting a fraction of a second. EPI methods are used at 0.5 T to produce snapshot images of the human head with a suatial resolution of less than 2 mm. o 1988 Academic Press. Lnc.

## Abstract Echo‐planar imaging is used in combination with a spin preparation phase to produce a T1‐weighted image. The small additional time penalty in this procedure does not detract significantly from the ultrahigh‐speed imaging capability of EPI, allowing a rapid real‐time optimization of tiss

The sensitivity of several single-shot imaging techniques to local field gradients (LFGs) generated by discontinuities in bulk magnetic susceptibility (BMS) were compared in mouse brain at 7.0 T. At high field, differences in BMS can cause substantial signal attenuation and image distortion. Because
