These heavy-duty thermoplastic pumps are constructed of solid, moulded polypropylene casings, casing covers, flanges and impellers. The drive pedestal utilizes a wide open seal area with a retractable front bearing. This simplifies seat inspection, assures minimum shaft overhang and deflection, and reduces maintenance. To protect the thermoplastic casings from accidental damage they are completely surrounded with epoxy coated metal armour.
In order to meet the requirement that no metal components be in contact with the corrosive fluids, the immersed portion of the stainless steel shaft in the vertical sump pump was completely sheathed in a thick sectioned sleeve made of the same thermoplastic material as the other wetted pump components. The shaft portion of the horizontal centrifugal pump in fluid contact was similarly isolated from the waste stream.
The pumps were delivered on schedule last September and have rendered trouble free service.
The on-time delivery coupled with the ease of installation has enabled the dairy to meet the environmental requirements without penalty.
