โฆ Synopsis
Small-Medium chamber volume boundary in the fom~ation of bubbles,
A previous paper[l] reported that at low flowrates for a given or&e diameter, gas flow rate, liquid head, and given liquid properties, the voIume of bubbles formed at a singk horizontal orifice is independent of the gas chamber volume as long as the chamber volume is less than a critical value. Ative this value of chamber volume, the bubble volume increased linearly with increased gas chamber volume until a second critical value, at which the bubble volume again became independent of further increases in gas chamber volume. These three volume retions were designated as small, medium and large chamber Volumes.
Recent experiments[2] have shown that near the boundary between the small and medium chamber volume regions, bubbles are formed which are smaller than one would expect from [l], and which are smaller than one would calculate from 'Tate's Law". This note presents these experimental results, and their explanation.
