lb 12b 'L component (9), which may be a shaft OP a piston rod. The sealing ring has two radially-acting sealing lips 1 a and 1 b. The seal is pressed axially forward at the thicker region of the disk (5) and that, as a resuit, the sealing edges (12a) or (12b) do not rest on the same circumferential line. The same effect can also be attained when an undulate spring is used instead of the disk. An alternative sealing arrangement includes cavities distributed around the circumference of the sealing ring, on the side facing a shoulder of the component. This provides rigidity in the radial andlor axial direction. If the cavities are distributed around the circumference this can also reduce the noise.
