Barnaby ‘Goose’ Chase was a man who liked a drink, loved his family and passed away on the floor of a dingy bedsit. The coronor calls it accidental death and the police file has been closed. Goose’s mother is not convinced and asks investigator Slim Gunter for help. Big Eddie Scarborough, a beautiful woman called Lady and the studious Barclay Lloyd help Slim uncover a story of go-go dancers, God, speed and a whole heap of bad faith. In the background, following Slim’s steps all the way, are an ill-tempered policeman and a man with a habit of knocking people on the head. Everyone’s got an interest in how Goose got cooked and it’s not long before the feathers fly.
