Jommy Cross es un slan, un superhombre cuya raza fue creada genΓ©ticamente para ayudar a la humanidad, pero que ahora es despreciada por los seres humanos βnormalesβ. Generalmente los slans se mantienen alejados del resto de los humanos, pero eso no impide a la madre de Jommy llevarlo a visitar la capital CentrΓ³polis, sede del poder del dictador del planeta, Kier Gray. Pero en su ΓΊltimo viaje a CentrΓ³polis, los dos slans son descubiertos, y la madre de Jommy es asesinada. Jommy, con sΓ³lo 9 aΓ±os, sin saberlo, se ve atrapado en un complot para socavar el poder de Gray, que puede ser mΓ‘s favorable a los slans de lo que se pueda sospechar.
