โœฆ Synopsis

This issue of Chirality contains much of the new research that was first presented at the 6th International Symposium on Chiral Discrimination in St. Louis on April 26-28, 1995. In addition to our subscribers, this issue is sent to every individual who registered for the symposium. A wide range of topics are addressed, including asymmetric synthesis, enantiomeric excesses in ancient geological samples, several in vivo and in vitro studies of interest to pharmaceutical andlor food scientists, theoretical studies, and many of the latest HPLC and CE approaches for the resolution of enantiomers. There have been important advances in all of these areas in the last few years.

It has not been that long since the 1st symposium on chiral discrimination. However, I am sure that the attending scientists there would have been astounded at the results and techniques presented in St.

Louis. This is particularly true in the areas of separations, in vivo studies and our understanding of chiral recognition. In little more than a decade, research in these areas often have gone from unthinkable to routine. This in itself is a tribute to the scientists who "made it happen". Indeed it was their work that provided the impetus for the regulatory agencies to finally address issues concerning the development of stereoisomeric drugs. We will continue to provide a forum for all scientifical areas involving chirality so that this important information is widely disseminated.
