✦ Synopsis
Phospho tungstate glass doped by Eu(llI) was selectively escited into its vitreous or crystalline components. The 'Do --, '~, emiss.on consists of three distinct, relatively narrow lines indicating total removal of 'F, degeneracy_ Based on group-theorttical analysis, the holohedrized site symmetry of Eu(III) is most likely C2h (compatible with the conventional point-groups C, or Cs) or Ci. The esceptional blue-shift of 'Do in glasses is at the same time rationalized by some Eu-0 distances being unusually short.
