โœฆ Synopsis

SIR JOHN WALTON RETIRES FROM NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

O n the 17th of September, 1983, a meeting entitled "Contributions to Neurological Research'' was held in Newcastle upon Tyne to commemorate Sir John's many contributions to neurology, particularly in the neuromuscular field. This meeting, organized by Dr. David Gardner-Medwin, was attended by many of Sir John's colleagues and students from all over the world. At 61, Sir John is retiring from the Professorship of Neurology and Directorship of the Muscular Dystrophy Group Research Laboratories in Newcastle upon Tyne to take up a new position as Warden of Green College, the new graduate college in Oxford. Though he will be sorely missed in Newcastle, his wider national and international work in the field of neuromuscular diseases will continue while he takes up this yet further challenge. We, and all in the neuromuscular field throughout the world, wish Sir John and Lady Becky Walton all happiness and success in their new life.
