Spectrochimicu Actu A, makes an annual award in memory of Sir Harold Thompson, who was for thirty years Editor of the Journal. All papers published in Specrrochirn&r Acru A are automatically considered for this award, the Editorial Board being responsible for the selection of that which, in their opinion, makes the most significant contribution to spectroscopy. The award consists of a monetary prize. of $1000, together with a presentation certificate atid a special decanter and wineglass set.
For the sixth award, for papers published in Volume 46A, the papers selected are those by Dr. D. Steele, Royal Holloway College, and his co-worker, Dr. A. Muller, entitled "On the extraction of spectra of components from spectra of mixtures. A development in factor theory--I", Specrrochimica Ada, 46A, p. 817 and "On the extraction of spectra of components from spectra of mixtures. A development in factor theory-II", Spectrochimica Acta, 46A, p. 1177. The award will be presented at the XXth European Congress on Molecular Spectroscopy, Zagreb, Croatia, Yugoslavia, in August of this year.
