✦ Synopsis
HEPATOLOGY
570
BOOK REVIEWS transfusion microbiology. Appropriately enough, about a third of the material deals with transfusion-associated viral hepatitis. HBV, HAV, non-A, non-B hepatitis, cytomegalovirus and Epstein-Barr virus are discussed in brief but well-written and lucid chapters. The remainder of the book is devoted to the selection of high titer antimicrobial antibodies and the streamlining and automation of serologic techniques. Details of few standard serologic assays are presented in the appendices. While the format and price are very attractive and the information on hepatitis reasonably accurate and up-to-date, readers of Hepatology have access to more detailed reviews and will not benefit from purchase of this book.
