Abstract

In this paper we consider the singularities of the varieties parameterizing stable vector bundles of fixed rank and degree with sections on a smooth curve of genus at least two. In particular, we extend results of Y. Laszlo, and of the second author, regarding the singularities of generalized theta divisors. Β© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim

Consider a generic vector bundle E of given rank m d degree. Consider the subscheme of the Jacobian of line bundles L such that E 8 L has a ssction. We show that the ringular locue of this subscheme consists of all line bundles such that E 0 L has at least two sections.

Let α’„ be the Lie algebra of vector fields on an affine smooth curve ⌺. Our goal is to establish an orbit method for α’„. Since α’„ is infinite-dimensional, we face some technical problems. Without having groups acting on α’„, we try nevertheless to define the notion of ''orbits.'' So, we focus our attenti
