Abstract
A novel three‐branch optical power divider with a diamondlike microprism of low index is proposed. The input power can be equally distributed to three output waveguides at large branching angles. The total transmitted power is as high as 97.7% at θ = 3°, which is higher than that reported. Furthermore, by simply varying the size or refractive index of the microprism, the percentages of the power entering the central and the outer branches can be adjusted. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
