Abstract

A single integral‐equation formulation based on multilayered media Green's functions is presented and applied to 2‐D dielectric grating problems. Its advantage over previous formulations based on free‐space Green's functions is that, here, the unknowns appear only on the surfaces of the nonplanar parts of a layered grating structure. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The stabilized biconjugate gradient fast Fourier transform (BCGS-FFT) method is applied to simulate electromagnetic and acoustic scattering from inhomogeneous objects embedded in a layered medium in two dimensions. Two-dimensional layered-media Green's functions are computed adaptively by using Gaus
