The first edition of this book was published in 1979 by the Miravalle Press Limited, Old Working Surrey, U.K. This book has been cited in every single-fiber electromyography (SFEMG) article. However, for whatever reasons, this book was not easily available to those who wanted to consult it. Through the courtesy of Teca Corporation, I was able to obtain one copy, which I poured over many times over the years as an essential reference in my research and daily practice of SFEMG. Finally, the long-waited second edition has now been published and is easily available.

This book was authored by two authorities in this field: Professors Stalberg and Trontelj. It covers every aspect of the microphysiology of the motor unit-from the basic principles of SFEMG to detailed accounts of SFEMG in various diseases and normal data for the various SFEMG parameters. Every subject is written about in great detail with an in-depth scholarly touch, based mostly on their own personal experience and research but still covering the ever-increasing literature on this subject. This is demonstrated by the 362 references in the second edition, compared with 84 in the first edition. And a few references are still missing!

The most welcome addition to the second edition is clearly the section on stimulation SFEMG, which was not well explored in 1979 and has been gaining in popularity in recent years because of the simplicity of this technique. Its principles, technical details, pitfalls, indica-
