โฆ Synopsis
A method for the simultaneous spectrophotometnc detennmatlon of Iron and copper by flow-injection analysis was developed using 2-~5-bromo-2-pyndylazo~-5-~N-propyl-N-sulphopropylam~no~an~lme The flow system utdlzes a double-beam spectrophotometrlc detector wtth two flow cells The reagent forma water-soluble chelates with C$II) and Fe(II) in an acetate-buffered mechum at pH 4 5 The molar absorptmtles of the complexes are 65 000 1 mol-' cm-' at 578 nm for Cu(II) and 87 000 1 mol-' cm-' at 558 nm for Fe@) In one reactlon cod Fe(II) 1s oxldlzed to Fe010 by KIO,, so the Fe011 chelate is not formed and only the coloured complexes wth Cu(II) are monitored m the first flow cell In a second reaction coil, the solution merges Hrlth sodium ascorbate solution to reduce Cu(II) and Fe0111 to Cu(I) and Fe011 Thus only the Fe011 complex IS measured m the second flow cell Cu(II) and Fe(II) m the range 50-200 kg 1-l are determined at 558 nm The sample throughput IS 30 h-' with a precision of 12%
