✦ Synopsis
A simple and low-cost technique is developed to enhance the transmission performance in fiber wireless links. Using a narrowband fiber Bragg grating (FBG), single-sideband modulation is realized by filtering out one sideband, which at the same time increases the modulation depth by suppressing the optical-carrier power. The results demonstrate a 12-dB improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) when a 10.5-GHz RF signal carrying 5 Mb/s QPSK format data is transmitted over 35-km single-mode fiber.
