✦ Synopsis
A~tract--Simultaneous measurements of polarization and quenching of fluorescence are used to study the rotational Brownian motion. A modulation device has been built leading to precise measurements of the sum and difference of the polarized components of fluorescence. A comparison is made between this method and the Perrin method for a fluorescent group, free or bound to a polymer, either on a side-chain or in the backbone. Results are discussed in terms of the shape of the autocorrelation function for the rotational micro-Brownian motion of chain molecules.
