✦ Synopsis

There is considerable evidence to indicate that the floral stimulus moves along with photosynthate in the phloem. In the present study the effect of cooling a localized region of the stem of the shortday plant Pharbitis nil Chois. on translocation was investigated. This low-temperature t r e a t m e n t simultaneously inhibited translocation of p h o t o s y n t h a t e and of the floral stimulus, thus further s u p p o r t i n g the idea that the floral stimulus is transported concurrently with assimilates in the phloem.
