โœฆ Synopsis

SIMULTANEOUS ELECTRIC AND MAGNETIC MEASUREMENTS ON HIGH T -SUPERCONDUCTORS* c C.S. JACOBSEN(a), N.E. DAM(a), K.F. NIELSEN(a), Ib JOHANNSEN(b) and A.S. PETERSEN(c) (a) Physics Lab. 3, Techn. Univ. A versatile sampleholder for simultaneous electric and magnetic measurements on conductors has been tested. The sample is mounted on elastic wires between two capacitor plates. The magnetization in a field gives rise to a displacement, which is detected as a change in capacitance. The sample mount may be optimized for low field as well as high field measurements. Studies on sintered YBaCuO samples are described.

It is shown that the quality of contact made to the specimen can lead to wildly erroneous values of Jc' Pulsed current techniques give more reliable Jc values, but the results can still be distorted by the presence of thermoelectric effects. Methods of making contact to these materials are evaluated
